This fun and anticipated event is one of a series of employee-organized fundraising initiatives benefiting the Nebraska Chapter of NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) and its annual Walk coming up in June. NAMI is near and dear to our hearts, due in large part to our relationship with our non-profit affiliate, The Kim Foundation. We believe in the Foundation’s mission and in doing our part to help organizations within the mental health community.Cupcake Wars drew entries from more than 20 individuals and teams, each judged on flavor, presentation, and theme (a tie-in to mental health and the work of NAMI). Our guest judges included our president & CEO, a representative from a local bakery, and a handful of employees from across our organization. They tasted every entry, made notes, and assigned point values for each category, with the Grand Champion having garnered the highest total score. First, Second and Third Place from each of our two Omaha office locations were also awarded as well as four People’s Choice Awards, voted on by employees companywide.
This was a fierce competition, which no doubt made for some late nights in the kitchen. We spotted employees armed with a lot of coffee on Friday morning as displays were being completed and assembled. We saw bags of icing, fondant cut-outs, poster boards, colorful fabric, miniature jungle animals, a twirling carousel, Styrofoam, and more.Following the judging, all cupcakes were available for sale, which ultimately raised more than $1,000 for the NAMI Walk. In addition to the fundraising efforts of our employees, C&A is serving as the presenting sponsor of the Walk. We’re proud to be a part of it, cupcakes and all.
