In a company as large as we are it’s not always easy to pull off surprises, but every couple of months we succeed with our spontaneous “Take Fives” that bring our employees together for an afternoon (and sometimes morning) treat and camaraderie.
Last year, I arrived for my interview at C&A Industries 45 minutes early, worried that my car would spontaneously break down or I’d be delayed by Omaha’s bustling mid-afternoon traffic. Aiming for, “Wow, she’s prompt and responsible!” rather than, “Is that girl still sitting in the lobby?”
I landed the job of a lifetime when I was thirteen years old. As the founder and CEO of my own company, I handed out sparkly purple business cards and established a local clientele for weekly babysitting jobs. The hours were flexible and the benefits couldn’t be topped.
